Welcome to Cerritos Elementary
Where Today's Learners Become Tomorrow's Leaders
Welcome to Cerritos School!
Hello Cheetah Families!
My name is Mr. Jason Blade, and I’m excited to begin my second year as principal of Cerritos School. It’s been a privilege to serve this incredible community, and I’m grateful for the relationships we’ve built together over the past year. I look forward to welcoming our returning students and families back to campus and meeting those who are joining the Cerritos family for the first time.
At Cerritos School, we are a strong and diverse community that truly feels like a family. We recognize that every student brings unique talents, strengths, and ideas to our campus. Our commitment is to support the whole child by fostering academic excellence while also nurturing students' social-emotional growth and well-being. Through engaging learning experiences in literacy, mathematics, science, technology, engineering, the arts, and more, we strive to ensure every student has opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
As we begin a new school year, I’m especially excited to see all the learning that will take place in our classrooms. Every day brings new opportunities for our students to discover their potential, develop new skills, and build confidence as learners. Our dedicated staff is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where every child can thrive.
We view parents and families as essential partners in our students' educational journey. By working together, we can help our students become reflective, resilient, and engaged learners who are prepared for future success. Our caring and talented educators collaborate closely with families to ensure that every student receives the support and encouragement they need to excel.
At Cerritos School, we continue to emphasize our four core values: Respect, Organization, Accountability, and Resiliency.
Beginning in Transitional Kindergarten, students learn and practice these values through school-wide activities, flag ceremonies, PTA events, classroom lessons, and recognition programs. Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum helps students develop strong character, positive decision-making skills, and meaningful relationships. Each month, we celebrate students who exemplify our core values and make positive contributions to our school community.
Together, we’re building a culture where every child is empowered to reach their full academic, social, and emotional potential. I’m excited for the opportunities, achievements, and memorable experiences that await us this year.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. I look forward to another amazing year of learning, growth, and success at Cerritos School!
Cerritos School's Instructional Program
Our instructional strategies and practices at Cerritos School are carefully aligned with the California State Standards to ensure a strong academic foundation for all students. Our dedicated staff provides high-quality learning experiences in a caring and nurturing environment where every child feels included, respected, and valued. We want all of our students to develop and maintain a lifelong love of learning!
At Cerritos, we focus on helping students build strong literacy skills, expand their academic vocabulary, think critically, and communicate effectively through both written and verbal expression. We also remain committed to the development of cursive writing. Students in grades 3–6 will continue to learn, practice, and be expected to use cursive writing as an important tool for written communication and academic success.
We are excited to continue offering our highly successful Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program, which was enthusiastically embraced by students last year. Through opportunities in dance, theatre arts, and choral music, students can explore their creativity, build confidence, and discover new talents while enriching their overall educational experience.
Last year, we successfully implemented a new History-Social Science curriculum that has engaged students in meaningful learning about communities, cultures, citizenship, and the world around them. This year, we look forward to piloting a new mathematics curriculum designed to deepen conceptual understanding, strengthen problem-solving skills, and support students in becoming confident mathematical thinkers.
These skills and experiences will be emphasized in every classroom and at every grade level as we continue to prepare our students for a bright and successful future. At Cerritos, we are dedicated to developing engaged, reflective, and well-rounded learners. Our school community is like a family, working together to provide a safe and supportive environment where students feel encouraged to take risks, persevere through challenges, and achieve their goals.
Our staff is committed to upholding these expectations by proactively addressing student needs and fostering positive relationships with students and families. We will continue to teach, model, and expect students to R.O.A.R. — to be Respectful, Organized, Accountable, and Resilient — as we begin another exciting year of learning and growth.
We look forward to a fantastic 2026–27 school year with our Cheetahs!
